The North East Wildlife & Animal Rescue Centre is a small independent Charity, based just outside Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

We are a sanctuary and haven for many unwanted, abused and abandoned pets, including horses, goats, pigs, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, hens and ducks. Our particular interest is in wildlife rehabilitation, and we have many years experience in hand-rearing orphan birds, and dealing with orphaned and injured mammals.

For more information, including what we do, where we are, and how to contact us, please visit our about page.

THE NEW ARC

Our second Owl release was tonight. Fortunately we were able to take ‘Logie’ back to the exact spot where we rescued him. As you can see from the photo below, his injury was quite severe. He had managed to slide down a roof and had trapped his leg between roofing sheets and with him struggling to get free, had ‘de-gloved’ the leg. At first we thought he might lose the use of leg which would mean he would have to be put to sleep......However after 3 weeks of treatment the leg has healed completely.......Something I can personally testify to after trying to catch him to release him. Legs and talons in full working order. Just like Minty he was out the box before I could even focus and my only pictures are of him alighting on the very barn roof we rescued him from and after a quick look round flying off.
The films won’t win us a contract with David Attenburgh but they are priceless to us 

THE NEW ARC

It’s been a very good week for releases. Gulls, (separate post) a pigeon and in the past couple of nights we have released 2 of our Tawny Owls. Minty was the first to go. He had suffered a damaged wing in an RTA was released here at the centre yesterday. Owls aren’t normally known for ‘speedy’ releases, but Minty took off like a rocket and although it was getting dark and the film doesn’t show it we watched him zip off across the fields until he was a spot on the horizon. ...

THE NEW ARC

Sorted thanks so much to everybody who offered to help. AD Heating delivered a couple of big boxes (and bubble wrap) to us this morning, perfect fit 🙂

We need a box, a cardboard box, a HUGE cardboard box!
One of our incubators needs to be sent away for "fixing" and we just cant find a box big enough - does anybody have one please?
The minimum size we need is 70cm length, 50cm width and 40cm height (a little bigger would be fine as we would need to package it really well)
Hoping somebody has a massive box somewhere going spare 🙂

THE NEW ARC

In early October we took in an extremely badly injured pheasant, named Qupapa by his finders. We were very concerned that due to severity of his leg injuries he was unlikely to heal well, he had been hit by a car and he was in a terrible state.
We treated him and splinted his leg, and as he recovered we gave him physio to try and get his leg moving.
Look at Qupapa now!! He has done so well and whilst still a little slow, he is improving in strength daily. He's so lovely 😍

Register as an animal ambulance

Would you like to volunteer your services as an animal ambulance for your area?

As and when we need someone to transport a sick or injured animal to The New Arc, we query our database of registered drivers and try to contact the nearest available volunteer to the patient.

The New Arc is based near Ellon, in Aberdeenshire. For an interactive map of where to find us, tap here.

What’s the commitment?

There is no commitment! We gratefully accept your offer to help if you are available at the time of asking. If you’re not available when called upon, that’s absolutely fine – we will try to contact another driver. It’s important to get as many volunteer drivers into our database as possible, so if you have family, friends, or neighbours who may be willing to help out, please do point them in the direction of this page!

Do volunteer ambulance drivers get paid?

Unfortunately, we are not currently able to offer any financial incentive, nor cover any expenses.

Ready to volunteer?

We hope you enjoy our site! Please do to visit us again - we will be updating regularly.
