Who are we?
The North East Wildlife & Animal Rescue Centre (known as The New Arc) is a small independent charity, based just outside Ellon, Aberdeenshire [ tap here for a map ].
The New Arc was set up in 2006 and is a Scottish Registered Charity (SC 037332).
Please note we are not open for visits to come and see the animals. Whilst we are happy to received injured wildlife at any time (it is always best to ring before arriving to give us your expected arrival time), we are not presently able to receive members of the public for tours.
What do we do?
Our particular interest is in wildlife rehabilitation, and we have many years experience in hand-rearing orphan birds, and dealing with orphaned and injured mammals.
We are based just outside Ellon, Aberdeenshire, but cover the whole of the North East of Scotland. We have a ten acre site, with facilities for a range of animals, from horses to guinea pigs, buzzards to foxes. We currently have several buildings which can be utilised in various ways, and are always striving to improve conditions for the animals in our care. We are totally funded by donations, sponsors and our Charity Shops.
As a small charity with many animals and birds to care for, we are not open to the public. The Sanctuary is run from our home, on our own land, and we are not set up for people to pop in and have a look around. If you wish to arrange a visit, this must be by prior appointment. Please contact us to make arrangements.
We’d like to refuse no animal, bird or reptile, whether it be domestic or wild, but with limited land it has become impossible to take every animal we are requested to help. We do try to find alternative accommodation if we cannot help, with other local organisations. We have a non destruct policy, unless the animal is beyond recovery and having taken consideration of veterinary advice.
How can you contact us?
We are very happy to give advice over the phone – (0796) 225 3867 – to anybody who finds an animal or bird they think may need help, but are unsure how to proceed. Please feel free to look at our wildlife page for some tips, and some “what to do /what no to do” ideas.
We try to be available by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but due to the amount of calls we now receive it may be that we cannot answer your call immediately.
Please do leave us a message via our contact page and we will do our best to get back to you as quickly as possible.
Alternatively, you can find us on Facebook and send us a message.
If you feel an animal or bird needs URGENT assistance please CALL on (0796) 225 3867. Often our emails are only checked once a day, and a call could save a life.
Where are we?
Directions: We are approx. half way between Ellon and Auchnagatt, on the A948 Ellon to New Deer road. From Ellon – continue past the turning for Drumwhindle up over the hill, past the turnings for Dudwick, then the turning for Stuartfield. Staying on the A948 you will see the Centre signs on the right hand side.
How are we funded?
We are not financially supported by Government or any other large organisations – ALL our funding is raised by donations, and monies raised through our Charity Shops which are at:
- Banff – 21 Low Street, Banff.
- Ellon – 42 Bridge Street, Ellon.
If you have goods that you would care to donate, feel free to deliver them directly to the shops. Please do not take items for the shop to the Centre itself, we have no spare storage space.
If you would like to volunteer as a helper in the shops please pop in and ask for information.
We hope many of you will find the time to call in and visit, bring in your unwanted bits and bobs, and perhaps grab a bargain at the same time!
How can I help?
In today’s economic climate everyone is feeling the pinch. Funds are at an all time low as donations to the New Arc have dropped significantly over the past 18 months.
Not everyone can spare the time to come to the centre and give ‘hands on’ assistance, but there are ways in which people can help us continue to rescue and care for abused, neglected and unwanted pets and injured and orphaned wildlife.
You could volunteer in one of our shops (Ellon or Banff); be a pick up volunteer for the times that we cannot get to collect goods or, on occasion, birds/animals that need to come into the Centre.
